Hello All,

I am rebuilding a Zigolo MG-12 that had full fuselage damage. I am rebuilding it at the KWHP EAA hangar which is a Class D airport and just barely inside the Mode C veil for LAX. I intended to fly it in the desert but recently secured a Hangar at the KCAM ultralight field and will likely fly it out of there. Now to my question. I may have a desire to one day fly it out of KWHP and could possibly get a concession to fly it out of KWHP as an Experimental without a transponder and no electrical system. To do so I would need to register it with an N number and likely would do it as a Motorglider. Only reason I would ever fly out of KWHP is there is a hanglider soaring hill nearby which is outside the Mode C veil. If I set it up as a motorglider than would it require a self launch endorsement? Even if by the time i do it I have many hours on the airframe as Part 103? Also resale may be higher as part 103 as if it required a self launch endorsement than selling it may be harder...

If I leave it at KCAM without the intention of ever flying it anywhere there is a Mode C Veil than it may just make sense to leave it Part 103. However, If I ever moved to another location (out of area or state) the flexibility of flying out of more populated areas might be worth it as an experimental with an N number. Although I worry that even if I got an N number it would come with many of the Part 103 restriction as where I can and cant fly making it not worth the effort...

Thoughts form people who have had this same dilemma?
