Hi Group,
I've decided to not build the standard fuel tank structure for my Ibis, but instead go for rivetted aluminium tanks, structured à la VAN's RV.
I'm curious about how to mount an aluminium tank to a wooden wing spar.
The things I worry about is that if I add to the spar locally - i.e. stuff for mounting the fuel tank - I might change the bending characteristics and even create local stress risers. How is this done in other designs? The IBIS spar essentially is a box structure with upper and lower caps , covered with plywood webs fore and aft. Of course there is internal stiffening as well.
thanks for any feedback!
