I have some MEKP that I use to catalyze vinyl ester resin. It has been in storage in a plastic bottle for over a year. I just discovered that the neck of the bottle is broken. The bottle has been open to the atmosphere for an undetermined time. I tested a small batch today with 1% MEKP, and it jelled as expected (11 minutes at 85 F) and set to a hard condition, just like a similar sample catalyzed with MEKP that has been kept in a sealed container. I am curious about the potential degradation of the physical characteristics of the cured VE due to potentially degraded MEKP.
Does anyone know if MEKP that has been open to the atmosphere for some undetermined time is still a fully effective catalyst?
Thanks,
BJC
