The "Flying Trojan" build has officially begun with this thread.
A Corben "Baby Ace" has been donated by FritzW, a generous member of the EAA 555. Together EAA 555 and several teachers are starting a new Aerospace Career Path at
Mayfield High School. Our goal is to instill a passion for flying and other aerospace career paths into students in Las Cruces NM. Working on the project are:
Major Bigger, MHS AFJROTC Senior Aerospace Science Instructor who will supervise the STEM class to oversee the project, build the wings and cover with fabric.
Mr. Flores, MHS Advanced Auto teacher who will supervise students to rebuild of the 0-200.
Mr. Aguello, MHS Auto 1 teacher who will supervise assembly of the fuselage and flight controls.
Mr. Cometti, MHS Fabrication teacher who will supervise fabrication of all hardware and welded components.
Mr. Wagoner and Mr. Madden, our local EAA 555 technical advisors inspecting and providing expertise.
Numerous HBA members who are donating much needed parts, pieces and advice.

To date we have accomplished:

17 Dec 18: Field trip to EAA 555 to introduce amateur-built aircraft and pick up the donated Baby Ace and 0-200. Process begun for LCPS board to officially accept the Baby Ace and take ownership of the project.

7 Jan 19: Student returned from Christmas Break. EAA technical advisors performed the first inspection of the fuselage and engine. Students cleaned out the storage and work areas for the Baby Ace. Fuselage is stored in an unused paint booth. Wing will be build in the AFJROTC STEM lab.

9 Jan 19: Students cleaned off the fuselage and removed the propeller from the engine. Also received our first HBA donations: Nosebowl from Mcmark and hardware from don January and D.D. Riffee. Thank you gentlemen.
