Learning to fly

The preferred French way to teach flying during WW1. Imagine a dozen or so of these hopping around a pasture in all directions. The French had longer and longer wingspans. Shortest couldn’t fly in ground effect and the longest one could fly around the field in ground effect. Progressed through your talent and survival. Nothing like self taught and no Microsoft flight sim.

Has anyone here benefitted from Microsoft Flight Simulator when learning to fly? I’m referring to piloting the airplane, not learning communications or navigation.

If so, in what way?
