Noticed last year that the fluid level in my compass was going down. Rebuild kits were backordered, so I just ordered a new compass and installed it.

Took the old compass, stuck it in the plastic bag, and dropped it into a drawer.

Pulled it out today. Fluid level was lower still, but there was no fluid loose in the plastic bag.

So...what am I looking at, here? Is the fluid evaporating, not merely leaking out? Finally did get a rebuild kit, but will a new gasket around the fill hole handle the issue?
