Need-to-build

I will be starting construction of my airplane early next year and I have a question regarding a sound way to cut wood parts. I'm looking into having some of my wood parts cut for me by a professional firm. I was looking into having a company that used a laser to do the cutting. However a Mechanical Engineer who is also a wood worker recommended that I used a company that employes a router type cutting system. This engineer believed that the burning of the wood would change the properties of the material and might cause a problem with the bonding/gluing of the parts.

What is the opinion out there? Is this a true statement?
