Having a KR-2 in the past empty weight of 560 lb. I would guess the weight empty to be near 650-750 lb depending on engine type. Pops would have maybe a better guess?

My KR was built to plans except for a separate windshield and a gullwing door on the left side with a top hinge about 6" on the right side of center. I liked it. If I remember correctly with a non-electric 1835 cc VW engine the EW was 530 lbs and I tried to save every ounce.

Have no idea on the weights of the extended version.

Wow I always would have guessed they would be about 400lbs. Guess now I know why I see them at airports but never see them fly.

Maybe a KR-1 with 1835 VW would squeak in at 400 empty but them KR-2S with a 225 lb. Corvair engine and all the goodies pilot's want for cross country you'd be lucky to get 650 lb. empty I often wonder why I see so many basket case's for sale on Craigs list / Ebay and so on ? Heck why did I and Dan move on from the KR-2 plane ? Well I know why I did.:gig:

Me too. The KR-2 that I built was almost finished and I decided I wanted a more practical homebuilt so my wife could fly with me. Bought a Falconar F-12 project and finish it. We did a lot of traveling in the F-12 for 5 years. 2 seats and over 800 lbs of useful load. Great cross country airplane for 2 people and lots of baggage.
