This is often accomplished by use of one or more spar(s), to transfer surface airloads to the fuselage.

There are some fun discussions about how to attach said spars, whether by fastening, bonding, both, or even curing the spars in situ with the skins.

You can also use a core to join the two skins, hexagonal honeycomb nomex, solid foam, etc. But it sounds like you already have tooling to lay up solid laminate skins and aren’t looking at a sandwich structure.

    Whatcha building?

The Glasair has jiggleS at the leading edges of the skin panels that accepts 6 plies on 7 oz. glass. Note that, on the Glasair, those LE plies are also closing the fuel tank.
