My neighbor, as a young engineer at P&W, was assigned to sit in a test equipment hutch and take data during full AB test runs of the J-58. He said that it was very intimidating.

There are YT videos of that testing.

The XF8U-3 was one of the great Might Have Been planes.

The excuse for buying the Phantom instead was logical, 2 crew & engines, an extra missile, and built in Senator Leghorn's state. ;)

But the looks! The trend in airplanes might have gone far more Thunderbirds Are Go! if the-3 had become the Fleet standard...
