Monte Barret gave a talk at our EAA meeting last night. That guy knows a bit about the noisy end of airplanes. Anyway, after a really neat lesson on what happens to fuel when you set it on fire inside an engine, and some charts showing how things change when you twiddle the mixture to lean-of-peak etc., he talked a little about the 390.
He told us it came about from the hot-rodder aerobats that are always wanting to raise the c/r for more power. So he took a set of the new 580 jugs and stuck them on a 360 case. He'll build me one for 30 large and change. A tad out of this man's reach tho.
Anyway, it was a good talk, even if I can't afford this stuff.
And if you've never heard of him, his engines go to the US aerobatic team, a bunch of show performers, including Patty Wagstaff, and anybody else who can afford his work. And he's the only place you can get the 390.
