Well, Hans-Joachim Marseille got six P-40s on a single sortie once, so maybe that answers that question!
Folks love the P40. The only reason I can figure is the scary shark teeth. Beyond that it was a mediocre fighter. It had little chance against even the emasculated African 109’s with the big air filters. Another American myth.

Folks love the P40.
I consider the P-40 one of the last "old school" fighter designs, harkening back to the 1930's. The fighters that followed were a quantum leap forward with their heavy metal and bigger engines.
