Looks like this project went dead! Sometimes it's better to continue with time tested products like MegaSquirt, rather than trying to save a few hundred bucks, considering the lack of support.

There were several approaches described in this thread. Jbiplane provided info on his EFI developments just 6 weeks ago (here). Megasquirt might be fine, too, but it has its own challenges (discussed in several threads here), and it ain't (all) about the money.

Maybe not dead but in a deep coma. There just was never enough interest in the same path to put together a small group with the same goal.

The MS is fine for ground based units but lacks feature 'needed' for aircraft. Same with the Speeduino, though that platform could be used as a base to develop the source code.

We desparatelly tried improve Speeduino to good reliability, cloned some Megasquirt 2 and 3 of curiocity and finally make own board using same processor like MS3. In Megasquirt schematics we found numerous errors but bulletproof it stil work despite of. Finally we will use as base open source RusEFI, but will drastically rework to better reflect to non experienced installer needs. Fitst step would be paramotor instalation kit (instead of Walbro bolt-on).

Keeping in mind that the MicroSquirt is being used by a successful aircraft engine builder currently!

What features is it lacking?
We going to switch to much more powerfull STM32 cause it will "real time" Ecu. It will count required ammount of ruel each rpm (not about 5+ like Megasquirt). It will allow direct and clear programing on high level engine like C++ and debugging of ECU without requirement of testing hardware, directly connecting to computer. And unlike Megasquirt is based on open source - anyone can contribute and produce.

For aircraft use we testing solution whith complete 2 times redundancy for main sensors and 2xECU, but it doubles+ the cost.

Maybe poor wording? It's not so much that it lacks features - there are too many single point failure/partial failure modes.

Go through the system one sensor at a time and evaluate how it's loss, or compromised signal, will effect the desired result. Then work backwards from the injector end to look for ways the proper signal from the control unit may get distorted or lost.

One of the traps in evaluating a system is the "I've used this for a long time and there has never been a problem." Just because something has worked for several individuals, even over extended periods of time, doesn't mean that one of several failure modes wasn't encountered because that particular corner of the operational envelop was never entered.

Some of the code for RusEFI

I haven't done any more than a quick look but if Jbiplane thinks it is better than MS I have no reason to doubt that conclusion.

Edit: Jbiplane posted while I was typing..........
