Finally from their forerunners:

Diesel Electric as used in trains, ice breakers, cruise ships
Turbo Electric as used in T-2 tankers of WW II, nuclear boomer subs

and just a hair shy of of a serial hybrid

Albastar AS 18

Three engines, the new UL / motor sailer AS 18Gen of Alba Star on board: a 65 hp Kawasaki Verbrennermotor, around 25 kilograms, which drives a 42 KW generator.
The amp thus obtained are driving a 42-kW electric motor in the fuselage nose for the FES drive. Originally, two years ago at the AERO presented by the Slovenian manufacturer doubles was designed with retractable engine for a conventional engine with a Verbrennermotor. This drive concept had, however, proved to be too heavy ultralight category. The weight cliff is now to be navigated with the generator. The first flight is scheduled for 2014.

I chanced upon it looking at visitors reports to Aero 2013

Does anyone know more?
