New to me DG-300 sailplane with a brand new Goodyear 5.00 X 5 tire; the centerline mold mark isn't even scuffed. When I retract the gear the tire's large outside diameter is such that the doors won't close leaving a 1/2 gap. The gear is retracted to the rafters, no room up there. The owners' manual makes no reference to tire size.

On cars, a 220 -70-16 tire is 220mm wide and the sidewall is 70% of that width. Are there "low profile" aircraft tires? As this is a German ship, perhaps something metric?

Thanks, Dan
