Greetings,

Now that I've settled on a plane, I have to work on specc'ing out an engine.

I've been considering a 90HP VW assembly using direct drive, or possibly a mazda radial.

I was looking at engines in the 120-160 HP range,
however it seems I might be able to get by on much less power, but I'm not sure.

The high side of the weight spectrum is 1200-1500 lbs,
however I'm hoping to be in the 1000-1200 lb range (wet) with 2 people and up to 100 lbs of cargo.

I'm planning on making the interior "cushy" and not a bunch of bare wires and unfinished metal,
hence why this plane might be a little "fat"
I also have to take into consideration heat/ac/generator and electronics.
AC will easily eat 10 HP off the engine, if not more.

I'd like a cruise speed between 80-105 Knots and the ability to take off in 900-1200 feet.

So, does anyone know of a calculator program that I can punch my wing area, weight and get suggested horsepower totals?

Airplane PDQ doesnt seem to be cutting it.

Of course if someone knows where I can find an inexpensive
160 HP Direct Drive 2 stroke Aviation engine or a package with reduction drive, I'm willing to listen. :)

When my plans arrive I'll know rough values for what dimensions I can have tucked into the cowl,
but I do think VW will fit. I hope the Mazda isnt too tall.

Thanks in advance!
