I'm sorry to relate that Homer Kolb passed away this past Sunday from complications relating to surgery. He was 78.

Homer was one of the pioneers of the ultralight word, starting in the 1960's before ultralights even existed. He was originally interested in building aircraft that weighed less than the pilot, and came up with many innovative designs. Aircraft marketed by Kolb included the twin engine Kolb Flyer, the UltraStar, FireStar and its variants, the TwinStar and its variants, an the FireFly. The Kolb MKIII, FireStar, and ultralight FireFly are still being produced by the New Kolb Aircraft Company.

A visit to his farm/airport was an experience not to be forgotten.
