I've got a Global 1/2 VW motor that has been kicked around in storage for several years. It has a Fairbanks-Morse magneto on it and the cap is broken. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new one. The Model # is P1-2B10

The Fairbanks Morse 2 cylinder mag was used on a 2 cylinder Wisconsin engine on a hay baler we had back on the farm in the late 1950's.

Or, if you have the ability to machine a new adapter, you could use a Slick magneto that's made for aircraft use.

I think he is talking about the plactic cap where the spark plug wires plug into.
The price of the new aircraft Slick 4316 for 4 cylinders are now made of gold. The price now is $2177.

Can also get 2 cylinder mags from the surplus military Continental GPU's from Saturnsuplus.com

I'm not sure where to get a Fairbanks Morse, but you can get a Slick for the 1/2 VW engine from hummelengines.com:

New Slick Magneto - Model #2220 or #4220 - $350.00 (I think the 2220 is for the 2 cylinder engine)
Magneto Drive and Screws - $55.00

I had a cracked Fairbanks-Morse magneto on my Global engine, but couldn't find the cap or a replacement magneto for a reasonable price, I only found someone that wanted $200 for just the plastic cap.

I have a Global. FM stopped working. Am working on an electronic ignition. Parts are way cheaper and just as reliable. Check on ignition systems for 1/2 VW.

Maybe this will be of some help? I used to work on the old Wisconsin "TJD" inline two cylinder engines. That was a lifetime ago. I'm not sure if the firing order would be the same, and I got to thinking, which led me to this site. Good luck. Dennis

And as the prices go up, the quality goes down. Slick has had too many QA issues in the last decade or more.
