It would also take a long time and a lot of fiddling to make long pieces of universal channel using those sorts of rolling tools. Those types of operations were common in WW2, but that is likely not the case today.

Admittedly the entire idea of the channel was based on having some sort of brake or sheet metal shop available to do precision bends. If bending these channels is not economically feasible or quickly done, then the whole idea is not worthwhile. The channel idea was simply to eliminate a bunch of fasteners that would be required to build it with flat sheets and angles.
