OMG...I though teenagers were bad, but now IDEK...Soaring Magazine? What is it with pilots and their TLAs?

Anyway, the June 2018 issue of Soaring has arrived, and in it is an article from Marianne Guerin about an unruly passenger on a cross-country soaring flight. Three times she mentions 'OD' in the article, as in "...despite forecast OD conditions...", "...I started to hear position reports of virga and masses of impassable OD...", and "...flying over unfamiliar tiger country terrain, skirting masses of OD, being hemmed in by virga, and a mouse-induced spin and landout." (Guess who the unruly passenger was.)

Enlighten me, what's "OD"? Occluded Dust? Obnoxious Downdrafts? IDKWTD, I could ping the SSA, but thought I'd bounce it off you Brainiacs here first.
