The old-school outdoor free flight guys finally accepted the crushing indignity of "radio assist", allowing them to steer a model back toward the field, or trip the DT when it would otherwise have been long gone.

The purists can make an argument that "They didn't need all that s**t back when Taibi and Goldberg did it!"

But... 80 years ago Taibi and Goldberg had hundred acre open fields within walking distance of their boyhood homes.

I remember bits & pieces of an olde song to the title of "As my free flight went sailing along "ended with "the fool thing hit a barn". 😁

They (we?) didn't bite the bullet and go with R/C Assist because of the small flying fields... It was because they (we?) aren't up to chasing the "real go-get-hers! :)
