I seem to remember a few years ago there was some massive archive at an FAA facility that was no longer kept from the public. A group of rare antique airplanes owners and restorers pushed for it as it was supposed to contain manufacturing drawings and engineering information on every airplane the CAA (precursor to the FAA) certified. It was confidential because at the time it was filed it would have been very competitive information, now not so much.

Anyways, does anyone know IFR there was any more news about this?
