There are a number of homebuilt float planes around here. (Northwestern Ontario) I myself fly a Murphy Rebel. Strapping a boat or lumber onto the floats is not terribly uncommon, but I was recently told by someone with a lot more flying experience than I have (although none with amateur built aircraft) that it is not legal to fly external loads on "uncertified" aircraft in Canada. He referred me to Canadian Aviation Regulation 703.25 which states only that passengers cannot be carried with an external load unless the aircraft has an STC approving such operation. In any case Part 7 of the CARS applies to commercial flight operations. I don't see that any of that has anything to do with amateur built aircraft. Anyone have any knowledge of any specific rules pertaining to external loads on amateur built aircraft?
