=Duseks (M-18 30 HP,21 kg opposite) Duct (rigid carbon )+Fan (550 mm) weight is circa 10 kg...

(the "semisoft" duct can be much lighter)=no risc to contact blade with duct surface !
I'm interested in a custom motor rim drive ducted fan, like the water propulsors:

Very good point!

Theoretically as the circumference grows, the flux is spread over more area and is less dense as with the amount of corresponding ferromagnetic material. In a practical sense I doubt the same weight could be kept and it would be substantially heavier as you point out.

Bille mentioned using carbon for the windings in an electric motor and also they would be the structure.
This is bieng done now experimentaly with carbon
nanotube yarn replacing copper, with very good preliminary results.

It's called , "functional fixedness"
bias in problem solving because you have already bin given
a solution ; and now you only see that one solution, with the exclusion
of all other avenues.

That , (Less dense) you described ; it needs to be redirected
and focused at a better angle. And your not just limited to both
sides ; you have top and bottom of each stator core, as well
when ya add a slight bend.

The cylindrical magnetic core , can also be wound ; doesn't
have to be a earth magnet. Now you need a computer, to
keep everything in phase.

Agreed, tomorrow.
Very interesting to think of motor structure, C + epoxy, as also conductor, so some potential for
weight saving, smaller size,less parts count.
The things that make a good machine.

BUT !=
=rotating motor with rotating propeller(s) can generate <10 kG thrust/kW +noise + safety problems !

=flapping (OSCILLATING) thrusters are as minimum ONE ORDER better,>100kG/kW !!! +lower NOISE +allmost SAFE for enviroment...

=it is possible to gain thrust force,aspatially at climbe phase !
