But the Quicksilver design was never certified or built under military standards. Are you sure this works with no prior certification?

I have a vague memory of a clause that specifically prohibits moving a 'fat ultralite' that missed the window for ELSA into the exhibition category. Having said that, if your inspector is 'friendly', he might never ask that question about whether it existed prior to the cutoff date.

But for the most part, we're overthinking this issue. The reality is, almost all ex-military a/c, both domestic and especially, foreign, are being flown with exhibition certificates. There are exceptions, like the P-51, already mentioned, and the North American T-6, that actually have Type Certificates. Otherwise, very few, if any, US or foreign built ex-military a/c have USA type certificates, so they are licensed in exhibition category. Same for some of the foreign built quasimilitary acro stuff, and the relatively uncommon competition acro planes that are being custom built ('hired gun' build companies) for airshow pilots. (EX: https://www.zivko.com/edge/ ) Most have more than one seat, and few have crew requirements beyond the pilot.

not here, have to hire a DER for your E-AB, and for your pilot's license too. Only what I know about is they still do the CFI here.

Might be worth contacting EAA for assistance. A lot of FSDOs were feeding that line several years ago. IIRC, EAA started some 'gentle persuasion' with FAA HQ, and the FSDOs figured out that they might have the time to do their tax-paid jobs, after all.

But that Zivco company probably provides more design data to include with your application than from a fat ultralight you buy off eBay, is my guess.

I had the same reaction. For the price the auction closed at I would have bought it and shipped it. Alas too late. Maybe it will resurface. Maybe the tooling will resurface.

I'm pretty sure that one of the sons in the build team family is, or at least was, on Paul Lamar's rotary list. If you're serious about it, you might try posting there.

Same problem here. Maybe it is ebay itself?
