Today we're installed outer wing panels on aircraft - now PJ-II "Dreamer" in flying configuration. Tomorrow we will use scales to weight aircraft and check CG on it with new landing gear.

Today we did weight our airplane with new retractable landing gear :

    P2271843 (Large).jpg P2271847 (Large).jpg P2271844 (Large).jpg P2271845 (Large).jpg P2271846 (Large).jpg

Total weight was = 1129kg. But it's was about 50kg of fuel remaining on board, because fuel tanks located in center of CG, the EMPTY WEIGHT of aircraft was 1129kg - 50kg = 1079kg.

Total EMPTY WEIGHT with old non retractable landing gear was = 1008kg.

So, airplane with new retracts gained about 71kg - it's not bad.

    Congratulations
My friend, George Iliopoulos designed and constructed a similar design, powered by a rotax 582.

On Monday we did final test on retractable landing gear before test flights. Everything went well.

There is lots of great info here, especially about the project Malish describes.

I haven't waded through all 68 pages here, but wonder if the Czech UL-39 Albi project has been mentioned. It's a scaled down ducted fan 2-place EU Ultralight category replica of the L-39 Albatross, and first flew in 2016. The prototype is powered by a BMW S 1000RR motorcycle engine, and development is continuing. A detailed 13 page technical article describing the project's current status was published in Journal of Aerospace Engineering 2018, Vol. 232(14) 2721-2733. Sadly, it's behind a SAGE Publications paywall but available for download for US $40.

I watched the L39 copy fly on a few occasions from Ceske Budejovice airfield in 2017 where it is hangered and i must say it wasnt impressive. Very lacking in power, had massive overheating problems and as i heard also had 2 maydays (7700) under its belt. So all in all i wil stick to the EV97.

I watched many UL-39 vids and the TO and climb performance looked marginal. The fan/ engine noise, while cool, wouldn't make too many friendly neighbors and wears on you quickly. It was a great technical achievement and nice build but not sure how practical it would be.

IMO It needs a better muffler on the engine, and perhaps to eject the exhaust into the ducted fan airstream.

    =230 kG thrust /70 HP...
=focused, concentrated stream,NO possible to stay 5 meter after propellers (iff dynamometer reading)!

=noise level much lower as single propeller the same 1.7m diametwr, 180 kG thrust force...

We're talking about different things - open prop vs ducted fan.
