No not that kind of duck. like a basket ball is going to hit your head, I mean the kind with wings and fly rather fast sometimes.
I have a neighbor who is feeding corn to wild ducks that come in to feed, and they come in sometimes in large flocks.
With 20 to 30 ducks flying in a right hand pattern and another 20 flying in a left hand pattern, I am really surprised that then never seem to collide.
This last week, the wind here in Minneapolis has been rather strong, steady winds at 20 to 30 mph with much stronger gust. What amazed me is that the ducks seem to know which way the wind is coming from on these windy days. Normally they just drop in any manner if the wind is claim. His back yard is rather limited in area plus there are a lot of trees.
But when the wind was strong, the ducks came in to land against the wind, just like we would with our aircraft. Now we have weather reports and wind socks to tell us which way the wind in blowing, but the ducks?
So any ideas on how they "know"?
