Hey guys,
this is more of a hypothetical question than an actual design at this point.
I was thinking (ever since I watched "How to train your Dragon"...) about making a wing structure that is modeled after what we imagine a dragon's to be. The big advantage would be it's ability to simply fold into a small area, as well as it's potential for light weight.
Otto Lilienthal's gliders had wings similar to this.
I made a couple of radio controlled model aircraft based on this wing structure a few years ago, and they flew great.
So, do you guys think it would be practical in full size? Perhaps carbon fiber 'bones', and skin made out of a thick nylon fabric, or possibly Kevlar?
I'm just daydreaming here... any thoughts?
