I am intrigued by the method in which Cory Bird used to attach with cowling to his firewall on his grand champion winning Symmetry. The halves are kept together with a common piano hinge setup, but the cowling to firewall attachment has me stumped a bit on the finer details. I have never seen it done this way and the results are clean and beautiful to say the least. I would like to know if anyone out there fully understands how exactly he designed it and the proper procedure for removing/installing the two cowl sections.

From a Popular Science article:

The Tiny, Perfect Little Flying Machine | Popular Science

"And that entire cowling is itself held in place not by dozens of unsightly machine screws, as is typical, but solely by a circumferential tongue that fits so perfectly into a groove around the firewall that the two cowling halves need to be popped free with a slap to release the air pressure when they are removed."
