I only saw a thread from back in 2010-2012 dealing with this subject and it was abbreviated and not very informative.
Can anyone tell me if it is feasible to convert a fan cooled 503 to free air? can the cooling tin, fan, and belt be removed and the engine run as is? or, does the fan tower housing have to be replaced? If the tower has to be replaced, can the portions extending past the base radius simply be cut away? Also, do shorter cylinder head bolts need to be used when the ones holding the cooling tin are reinstalled?
Thank you.
