Charlotte airport used to have a scale Wright flyer strung up somewhere. I didn't see it on Sunday. I didn't look too hard, though.
What did I see was a Bellanca 14-9 hung up in concourse D.

So, thread idea. Post replies about concourse plane for bored travelers to look at. I can't think of any other airports I've seen them inside, but maybe there are?

The GA terminal in Lexington, KY has a red Staggerwing hanging from the ceiling. As I said in my article, I would have preferred to see it on the ramp outside.

Denver (KDEN) has a Curtis Jenny and Seattle (KSEA) has the Rutan Voyager and an OX 5 powered Eagle Rock If i have the name correctly. Las Vegas (KLAS) has the Cessna 172 that set the endurance record in about 1962 that was sponsored by the local casino.

Chicago (KORD) has a Grummen (Wild Cat?) they type Butch O'hare flew in the main terminal while the United concourse at San Francisco (KSSFO) sports an impressive variety of fake, large scale display models. in the Y of the United concourse.

There is a lot of good aviation history in many airports around the country if you look for it. Renton WA (KRNT) has the History of Wiley Post and Will Rodgers last flight as they departed from the associated seaplane base on their flight too Alaska. Also The Renton Boeing facility was developed to build B-29s in WW II and some of that history is covered also.

Then there are the even more obscure stories such as the landing in Wenatchee WA by Clyde Pangborne on his Tokyo to Seattle flight at the the no longer existing Wenatchee airport, presumably to get a slice of his mom's apple pie. Seattle (KBFI) was fogged in and he had enough gas to get home so he did. Why wait for the fog to lift?

St. Petersburg - Clearwater International has the replica of the Benoist, the first scheduled commercial passenger carrying airplane. The replica was built by EAAers to re-enact the (75 anniversary of?) the first passenger-carrying flight across Tampa bay.

Lincoln Nebraska air terminal. Lincoln Aero Sport biplane replica built by Dr. Gram. Aero Sports were built at the old Lincoln Aero airport north east of town. It has cantilever wings(no wires) two place side by side. I watched Dr.Gram fly one replica it was powered with an O-200 I think. https://s3-media2.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/WXMVuOO-CZhe9KoWBTRE2A/o.jpg

Does anyone have information about this plane? The original is in the Smithsonian, right?

This W33 aircraft flew from my old workplace, Baldonnel, home of the Irish Air Corps, to the USA with three men aboard.

Lindberg hated that Monocoupe, blamed several things on it such as the wing design.

That plane used flaperons (ailerons that also acted as flaps) which caused it to have some poor handling characteristics. Our sister D-145, N11733, was a docile flyer, I had quite a few hours of stick time in it, great and easily trimmable airplane. I aint no Lindberg, but I rate the D-145 as one of my favorite Monocoupes. Our 90A with the Warner Scarab 145 was about equal in flying ease.

Midway airport in Chicago has an SBD Dauntless dive bomber suspended from the ceiling used in, you guessed it, the Battle of Midway.

Wow, lots of replies, I'm glad I started this. I've been through a few airports in my time but have only seen indoor aircraft or models at Charlotte. Heathrow used to have a scale Concorde on the roundabout coming in/out. That's now been traded for the world's smallest A380 (yawn).
