All joking aside, the Ugly Stik could actually be a great inspiration for a design even simpler than a Volksplane.
Set the wing with a flat-bottom airfoil and without dihedral or twist right on top of the longerons, which are angled down from forward bulkhead aft to the tail to set the wing incidence. No struts, no wires, just a one-piece cantilever wing and flying surfaces with metal hardware. No wing folding, just a big slab of a wing that can be removed in one piece for transport in a pinch. 20' span will fit in a single-car garage lengthwise, with another foot on each end for the raked tips, call it a 5' chord, so you've got about 102.5 sq ft of wing area. Keep it light and it will fly fine on a 50 hp 1600cc VW with no need for flaps because with that 4.7 aspect ratio it will not float. Cockpit entry will be awkward but you can add hand- and foot-holds and a roll-bar to hold on to when getting in and out. Mount the windscreen on the wing with a round cutout for the pilot and keep the wire trailing edges and the big round rudder for fun.
Seriously!
PS--To scale up the concept for a side-by-side two-seater with 50% more gross weight, increase the wing chord to 6' and the span to 26' including the raked tips, that will give you 147 sq ft of wing area and a 4.6 aspect ratio, and power it with an 75-80 hp big-bore VW. All passengers must wear a leather flying helmet, white silk scarf, and flying goggles with integral Groucho Marx nose and moustache, selfie camera is mounted in the instrument panel.
