Looking through my new set of plans there are a huge number of aluminium fittings that can be hand made or water cut. Lots of brackets ,horns, hinges, levers etc. I'm wondering about making them out of carbon. I have a lot of carbon scraps that I could lay up and vacuum into stock for water cutting. I can also make angle by vacuuming into alloy angle for brackets etc. Is this something that is done by others or is there a concern about wear resistance, electrolysis with bolts etc(a layer of glass on the outside?) I'd imagine a fair bit of weight could be saved and I already have the materials.
Would I just lay up the same thickness as called for aluminium?
