By now most of us have heard about the terrible disaster that took place when the Space Shuttle Columbia broke up on reentry today. I am truly shocked and saddened by the disaster and my heart goes out to their families. Those astronauts were doing what they loved and they knew the risks, but it still does not dull the loss. Space flight has become a pretty common occurrence and I had almost let myself forget the challenges they face on every mission.

Along with sadness I have some real anger as well. Someone called in to Dan Rather and had the gall to claim to have had a piece of the shuttle land on his property. When Dan asked him to describe the incident, the man said that it was one of the dead astronauts teeth. I swear if I could have got my hands around that guys neck, I probably would have....well, I don't know. I'm not going to spout off about where I think society is headed, just suffice it to say I was more than a little furious.

Please forgive my rant. I just wanted to vent a little. I think aviation and the country has suffered a great loss today.
