Define cheap. My AeroMax (wings and tail feathers completed) now needs the fuselage kit. $8k (AUD) That's not expensive, except that the entire Ranger can be built for less than half that amount. I looked into building the Airbike - Wings $2500, Airframe $6999 (USD). The Legal Eagle is $3000 - $5000 ($4500 - $6500) - and you need to be able to weld. Even the Affordaplane is about $3000 USD ($4500 AUD) and you need to source 6061-T6 AL tube (which can't be had in Aussie for love or money).

The Ranger (like the Aeromax) is almost completely CNC cut, and uses plywood. But the Ranger costs about a third of the price.

    For me it's a no-brainer.

But still - is it build from common available materials ? Or you have find them hard way ? I had bought rag wing stork plans - shoul be on cheap side if try to find all wood locally, dry it yourself but plywood is no go on same scenario.

Or go cnc foam plus fiber glass... Like hero of modern gyrocopter have done in past with home moulded fiberglass rotor.

A kit is optional right? You can scratch build a Minimax and the materials can be pine.

What kind of plywood is the Ranger made from? Maybe I'm missing something so illI go re-read the thread but there's nothing cheap about aircraft plywood.

Like I said, I'll re-read the thread maybe I missed something.

I think this thread so far is easy enough to sum up:

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”

It’s only cheap because someone is graciously sharing their work. I don’t know if any true materials have been stated as required. If it was a for sale kit, it would be smack in the meat of it. It’s not any cheaper, you are getting a freebie.

"Cheap" somehow seems the wrong word to describe any aircraft. Perhaps "inexpensive" would be more "PC"? Or "Affordable"?

Let’s hope that he tests it before trying to fly with it.

It would be interesting to hear the reasoning behind the approach he has taken. A foam-core spar web with CF or FG at 45 deg to the caps would help keep his spar caps in alignment (in three axis) and provide a compression-resistant member between the upper and lower caps. I guess he is counting on that sinusoidal (carbon?) truss web to do that.

Really don't know. I would do in 3d traindulat truss anyway.. Remeber me of on photo from past - rib made from mono filament of fiber-glass, on mold made just from piece of plywood and nails... Just wet fiber with epoxy and build a web.. Cant't find it now, but will try.. Still - 50 kg of fiberglass is cheaper and faster than aircraft grade wood + plywood.

    Cheap is anything under $1,500.

Just okay is anything under $2,500, but it *better* be flying. Not pretty, just flying.

A Choppergirl Special is anything under $199. Don't bid on those, those are for me only.
But shoot a link to them to me when you find them ;-)

$10K is my house. No little dinky private putter airplane is worth a house.

The Aeromax Fuselage kit is $5,000.00 USD which includes hardware machined for you. Landing gear, covering kit.. Most charge extra for all that.
So I find it very reasonable.
Like putting a puzzle together being lazer cut, and hardare machined.

The guy has other videos on his spar and wing thinking. He has to be pretty close to me as he is listening to the same radio stations I do. I’m not getting in it.

I wonder if either he has the engine above the wing's trailing edge and the prop horizontal, or more likely he was going to get it towed up to flying speed.

Ok. (1) The last sentence in the report says "The CAA said that they appreciate the passion and skills of Fayaz and would provide him with the required guidance to achieve more expertise in the field."
    (2) look at those wings and tell me they are going to produce lift.
