I'm getting ready to place my 1st material order for a plans-only composite 2-seat aircraft. At least 1 other builder is vacuum-bagging carbonfiber. I'm not inclined toward playing with bags and vacuums. I've heard that hand-layup of carbonfiber is difficult because it starts out shiny and black, and after wetting-out, it's still shiny and black. I could drench the layups with epoxy, but that would defeat the goal of achieving light weight. I'm especially worried about not wetting-out an inside layer of a multi-ply part. Any hints on making light, but reliable, carbonfiber hand layups, or should I just order fiberglass?

Thanks for your insights,
Cliff
