I am looking at a used home built glastar sportsman. The owner of this plane died and we have very little info on the plane. We were able to find the assembly manuals and we think the daughter has the plane and engine logs. This plane appears to be in great condition but it does have a accident report on file with the NTSB, however it appears to have been repaired to new condition as there is no signs of damage. The engine was inspected and rebuilt as if it had had a prop strike after the date of the recorded accident and certified to be returned to service. My question is if we buy this and are too scared to fly this as is because of the damage history and decided to part it out to build a new plane what if any is the value of the airframe? Could anyone ever buy it and build it into a plane that could be reregistered? Please note that the price we would be paying for this is about what a rebuilt Lycoming 0-320 would cost. Also any idea what value of used gps/comm equipment is the stuff is 6 years old.
