At this point, I've asked a handful of experienced individuals about the best way to splice together two small electrical wires. I've received a handful of different answers. This leads me to believe that it's probably more about using a reliable method, rather than the "best" method. There is probably an objectively "best" solution, but that most "good" solutions will work just fine.

However, I am curious, what method do users of this forum use when splicing small wires together?
