Now that the RV-6's engine mount is off, I'm tasked with cleaning it up prior to welding the cracked welds and adding gussets. When I built the -6, I used one of the phosphoric acid conversion treatments on the steel prior to priming, but as I've stripped the weldment, there is evidence of minor rusting under the epoxy primer. So the clean it up, use a phosphoric conversion, then prime method didn't work as well as I had hoped.

For those of you who've been there, done that, is there a better way to go about it?
