Another silly question from me, alternator / master relays?

Hey all,

Possibly stupid questions...

About relays - do most people put in two relays for each half of a split master (battery / alternator) is the typical excitation current for an alternator high enough that is can't run straight through a split master switch? I guess aircraft alternators need 12VDC (not 24V)?

Also, when people talk about the battery solenoid is that between the alternator and battery, or battery and master buss? I presume the battery and master buss but I thought I'd better check. If I knew what current a split master was rated for that would answer it. I am running a pretty light 12V system, maybe 75W-85W peak.

I am getting there with this electrical stuff, but your help is making a big difference. Cheers
