I'm at the point where I need to select an airfoil for my design, and I've narrowed the choices down to about half a dozen, but now I'm stuck. Given the well documented discrepancy between wind tunnel derived data (NACA, etc) and computer generated estimates (my comments are only related to XFoil), what would be a reasonable approach to making the final decision? Since a relatively small difference in CLmax can result in a significant difference in wing area, weight, flying speeds, etc. does anyone know what data is considered the most realistic for design purposes?
