Was reading in the amphib section and it occured to me how much of a huge gap there is in the amphib market.

Currently there is no really decent performance ampib above 300hp, which leaves the main commercial market relying on converted bush planes or having to shell out a huge amount of money for a turbine Cessna Caravan.

On the lower end there are excellent aircraft like the Lake LA-200, which can match many conventional aircraft with the same engine. It can actually exceed some Piper's and Cessnas with the same engine.

That is what the commercial market is missing. There is no commercial amphib available that can match its conventional competition. Not even close.

A larger 400-600hp class amphib designed like a Lake LA-200 would provide an aircraft MUCH closer to the performance of conventional aircraft. It would be 20-30 knots faster at a given power setting, or would allow a significant fuel savings.
