Hello :)

I'm looking at seaplanes. Criteria are cost, build time, storage, along with flight characteristics. Has to be at least a 2 seater. The Searey would be nearly ideal if it came in plans only or was half the price, currently north of $30k. Storage would be solved by having the possibility of trailering it. I wouldn't mind tacking on 20 minutes preflight and again going home. Would be just like my old sailboat. The Osprey 2 is a little over the width limit, so I've heard. Plus the few videos I've seen look like they should be equipped with a periscope.

The Coot looks nice. It's wings are foldable and can be built from plans. But it weighs something like 1500 lbs and would have a fairly limited useful load for a plan that heavy.

An abandoned Glass Goose project would be possible. But there doesn't seem to be much support and its Seahawker predecessor was a flying coffin. Does anybody know if all those safety issues were put to rest in the later Goose kits?

I'd most likely need to trailer or tie down anything I'd build.

Thanks,
Dan
