looking to see what alternator people are using. if using automotive alternator (denso) staying internaly regulated or modifying for external regulator and being able to manually shut off the field with a switch.
here is link i found to converting auto alternator and making it "airworthy" supposedly internal regulator is a no no in aircraft even though they last many years in an automotive application.
EAA - EAA Experimenter - One-Wire Alternator Conversion

is this really necessary? or would just hooking up a switch to the ign input of the regulator be good enough. alternator fails just turn the switch for the alternator off. And if internal regulator is such an issue then take it off the back of alternator and mount it to the firewall with wires from regulator to the alternator. and if diode packs for the rectifier is a problem then do the same mount them to firewall and run correct guage wires from alternator to the rectifier.

im converting a honda engine for alternative power so was wanting to stick with the alternator that goes with the engine. rated about 95A but still in a small package. and fits the existing alternator mount.
