It seems like I have run across engines with five minute ratings.
To have a significant amount of extra power for five minutes seems like it could be very useful, takeoff especially water takeoffs seem like they could benefit a lot from a short period of extra power. Certain emergencies seem like a great time to have an extra five minutes of power .
Electric propulsion seems like it might be a good way to achieve this.
What would the weight penalty be for an internal combustion engine turning a generator and both charging extra power batteries and powering a Electric motor capable of 100% overload for five minutes?
What about the weight penalty to Add a alternator to the standard engine capable of recharging batteries in a hour that could power two smaller auxiliary engine propeller combinations for five minutes that could add as much power as the basic engine.
First the sake of argument imagine a 200 horse engine and two auxiliary motors capable of 100 hp each for five minutes ?

Or is there a better way to achieve 100% overload ?
