New to this forum. I have a 3/4 scale Bearcat that is complete with all the metal work and needs finishing - firewall forward, cockpit, wheels, etc. Being that I have two jobs (USAF Reservist), I am looking for a reputable company to finish the airplane for me. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I am not concerned where they are located for I will bring the aircraft to them.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Eric,

You might also try the Replica Fighter Assoc. on Yahoo groups for help. There might be someone there with the answer your looking for. The RFA has been around for a while.

Eric, I would LOVE to see this, I am a huge F8F Fan and we used to have a full scale bearcat at a local museum until they sold it last year.. :(

hello, check the pictures at the link below. There is a unfinished plane in the last three pictures that appears to be a scale bearcat. I am a big Bearcat fan and would like to learn more about this replica as well.

    Cheers,

    EddieE.

This is not really pertinent to a scaled Bearcat, but here is a photo of the Bearcat I helped restore from the ground up to a museum quality flying craft (in between Mustang projects).

Frankly, I am surprised that noone has come up with a 3/4 bearcat or 3/4 Thunderbolt plans or kit.

my idea of a dream homebuilt would be a scaled p-47 with a P&W-985....

I played around with Bearcat design too...I was able to draw 32% and a man sitting inside of it. That would fly with 30 hp engine possibly.

    Darryl,

Could you post some photos here? You have a lot of enthusiasts on this site that would love to see a Bearcat project.

    Cheers,

    Dave

If someone wanted a relatively quick Bearcat look-alike in wood and fabric, the Marcel Jurca MJ-2 Tempête is pretty darn close. With a few minor stylistic changes to the cockpit and turtledeck and round engine from Rotec or Verner, it would be just fine for "stand-off" scale.

Just for fun...no idea if the Rotec or Verner will fit, just a quick sketch.

Personally, I'd be happy with a stock MJ-2 just painted up as a Bearcat. I remember hearing that the lines of the MJ-2 were actually inspired by the Douglas Skyraider, so that would be another potential source of paint schemes. Quite a few are painted up in (usually French) military colors.

My father (google Alden Rigby) was a Mustang driver in WWII, and an ace to boot. He was stationed in Olathe KS during the Korean war as a USAF liason to the Navy. He got a chance to put in a lot of hours in the Bearcat, along with many other Navy birds. He always said that he didn't fly the Bearcat....it flew him! He also quite enjoyed the Corsair. Said it was impossible to make a bad landing in that thing.
