Hello:
this is my first post.
Im in the final stages of building a two seat version of a mini-max.
I like the open cockpit , slow and low flying.
One of the features of the minimax that I did not like was the high drag due to all the struts for the wings, landing gear and tail. So I decided to make this design a little cleaner.
although I cannot give up the open cockpit.
what I have come up with is a two seat version of the minimax with the following specs:
Stall speed: 35 MPH
Cruise: 90mph
Engine: Aerotwin 65 Hp. turbocharged
Airfoil : gottingen 324
I like this airfoil because it has a high Cl and minimal drag at a high Cl. So I will be able to fly slow without dropping out the sky.
wing area : 182 Sq. ft
Chord: 5.5 ft
length: 25 ft
Note: on my first flight of my minimax I broke the landing gear because I came in too slow for the landing yet 10 mph above stall. However because of the high drag the airplane was dropping around 400 ft /min and could not flare at that speed. so it flwe into the ground.
thats why i want a slow airplane that isnt so draggy. I figure that the l/d for my new design is around 12. the Minimax is around 7.
the first picture is an artists rendering of the two seater.
(The cowling has changed . It will be larger with more bumps to accomodate the aerotwin engine , which is very tall and wide is places, and will have an underbelly intake for the turbocharger cooler.)
The second is a picture of the minimax, which has 120 hrs on it( lots of fun)
Jacques
