What are people running for cruise rpm on their half VWs? The builder's notes I got with my plane (Fisher 404, engine is a Mosler CB-40, 1083cc) say 2800 (he said "2700 I found to be a little low for a stable cruise"), but I get the impression many people run higher than that. I get 3000 rpm max static, 3200 WOT during climb, though I may experiment with propellers... I know some people prop for significantly higher rpm, though my Fisher is draggier than most 1/2VW powered planes so it needs more prop.
Also is there a limit on how long one can safely climb at full throttle with these engines or is just a matter of keeping the temperatures within limits? Again, the builder talked about reducing rpm, "When you have a comfortable altitude you can if you wish reduce rpm to 2900 approx and maintain your 60 knot climb."
