The Evans VP-1 and VP-2 Volkplanes both have low rear spar/strut bulkheads that project several inches above the level of the box fuselage. Per the plans, this is filled in with a short, rounded fiberglass fairing (see 3-view and prototype pic below), but this non-structural fairing is an area where many builders have added their own touch with Bud's blessing. I am thinking that I'd like to start with the open cockpit but included a turtledeck like the French example below. Semi-circular wooden frames and formers covered in fabric seems like the obvious solution, but I'd be interested in any other approaches that might work. Composite? Sheet aluminum? Pros or cons of any of these? Feedback welcome. Cheers, Matthew
