Messing around with the airfoil comparison tool, I came across the Eppler 591 with a remarkable maximum CL of about 2.1 at a Reynolds number of 1,000,000 according to the Xfoil predictions.

That’s right about the conditions of a 1.0 m chord wing at 55 kph so very interesting for a low-powered microlight.

My questions are:

1) How much faith can you put in the accuracy this sort of Xfoil prediction for real-world applications?

2) Practically, how close does a typical fabric-covered wing get to the airfoil’s theoretical max CL?

Cheers,

Matthew
